Russian Drone Attacks Kill Three in Ukraine and Disrupt Power Supplies

KYIV — Russian drone attacks across Ukraine killed at least three people and caused widespread damage on Friday, disrupting electricity supplies to around 370,000 people, according to Ukrainian officials.

Two people were killed and 12 wounded in attacks on three districts of the eastern city of Kharkiv, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said. In the northwestern Volyn region, which borders Poland, a drone strike on a food-processing facility killed one person and injured eight, according to regional governor Roman Romaniuk.

The attacks also damaged the power grid in Volyn. Repair crews restored electricity to about 100,000 people later in the morning, but officials warned that outages in the regional capital, Lutsk, could last for at least 24 hours.

Drone strikes also hit shopping centres in the northern city of Sumy and the neighbouring Rivne region. Seven people were wounded in attacks on a major shopping centre and other locations in Rivne, local authorities said.

The latest strikes have increased concerns about the security of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as the country prepares for winter. Repairs are under way, but continued attacks could put further pressure on electricity and heating supplies.
