NEW DELHI — India's 2027 population census will take nearly 50 days, with self-enumeration scheduled from January 10 to 24, followed by house-to-house counting from January 25 to February 28 in most states and Union Territories.
The second phase will include 40 questions, compared with 29 in the 2011 Census. The questionnaire will cover caste, family details, nationality and permanent address, along with selected identification and household information.
The reference date for the Census is midnight on March 1, 2027. A revisional round is scheduled from March 1 to 5.
Poll-bound states and certain snow-bound regions will follow separate arrangements. The exercise is expected to provide updated demographic information for national planning and public administration.
