Doha — A liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier owned by Qatar was struck by unidentified objects while sailing in the Arabian Gulf on October 30, according to Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat). The incident has raised fresh concerns over maritime security in the strategically important Gulf region.
The vessel, named Al Mayeda, was hit on Friday evening. Nakilat confirmed that none of the crew members was injured and that no environmental damage had been reported following the incident.
The company said the vessel remained safe and operational, while the impact of the incident was being assessed. It also confirmed that coordination was continuing with the crew and relevant maritime security authorities to ensure the safety of the vessel and those on board.
The Arabian Gulf is a major international shipping route, particularly for energy exports. Any security incident involving commercial vessels in the region can have wider implications for maritime traffic and energy transportation.
Further details about the objects involved in the incident and those responsible have not been established in the information released so far.
