Imphal — Five Kuki men have been killed in two separate incidents in Manipur over two days, as ethnic tensions flared again in the northeastern state.
Three Kuki-Zo men were killed in an exchange of fire with unidentified armed men at Kekru Naga village in Noney district on Saturday, police said.
On Sunday, security forces recovered the bodies of two young men who had been missing since October 28. The victims were identified as Paoginlal Hangsing and Tinginlun Chongloi. Their bodies were found during a joint search operation in Senapati district.
Police said search and combing operations would continue to identify and apprehend those responsible. Security has also been tightened in the affected areas amid rising tensions. A 48-hour shutdown had been called in Kangpokpi district following the disappearance of the two youths.
