KOCHI — The Indian Navy’s sailing vessel INS Sudarshini has returned to the Kochi Naval Base after completing a 287-day transoceanic expedition under the banner of Lokayan 2026. The vessel covered 22,000 nautical miles, visiting 17 ports across 11 countries, with a crew of 40 sailors.
The ten-month voyage provided an opportunity to showcase India’s maritime heritage and naval capabilities while strengthening engagement with countries and naval institutions along the route. The ship also represented India at international naval events linked to the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations.
The crew faced challenging conditions during the expedition, including strong winds and rough seas. Families and naval personnel welcomed the sailors as the vessel arrived at the Kochi Naval Base, marking the completion of one of the Indian Navy’s major sailing expeditions.
