Covid Fourth Wave: WHO warns of new mutant XE, a hybrid of three variants
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the discovery in the UK of a new type of Covid called XE. The new variant is likely to be more potent than the omicron. XE is a virus that is genetically modified with omicron BA'1 and BA.2 strains.
"The XE recombinant (BA.1-BA.2) was first detected in the UK on January 19 and has since been reported and confirmed in less than 600 sequences," the WHO report said recently.
Symptoms: Common omicron variant symptoms are similar to those of a cold or flu. Experts say in an article published in the British Medical Journal that viruses cause such mutations when multiple variants of Covid affect a patient. Here are the most common omicron variant symptoms:
- Nasal congestion
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
- Chronic cough
- Rough sound
- Trembling or trembling
- Fever
- Dizziness
- Brain fog
- Muscle pain
- Loss of smell
- Chest pain
Meanwhile, Omikron's BA.2 variant is reported to be spreading globally. Millions of people in the UK alone were affected by the disease this week. There has been a big wave of BA.2 in the US and China.
Countries like the UK have witnessed an increase in Kovid cases - an average of 76,000 new infections per day, Italy - an average of 70,000 cases per day, China - about 5,000 cases, which is their all-time high, and Thailand - per day. The average is more than 25,000, Israel - more than 14,000 new cases, Cyprus - more than 4,908 per day, France - more than 20,000 new infections per day, Greece - more than 20,000 new infections per day, New Zealand - more than 13,543 per week, Hong Kong - more than 3,700 cases per day.
According to the European Union Health Agency, European countries such as France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Austria also register increased cases of infection.
According to the World Health Organization, the new virus is ten times more likely to spread than the BA.2 variant of Omicron in early detection. The WHO said further tests were needed to confirm this.
