The new Atlantic Technological University (TU)- Simon Harris, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, has officially opened
Atlantic TU sees the dissolution of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, the Institute of Technology Sligo, and the Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Simon Harris described the work of the new Atlantic Technological University (ATU) as "a great achievement" in the wake of ten years of hard work. “I know today is a day of mixed emotions when we disband GMIT, IT Sligo and Letterkenny IT, but it should be a day of pride for the management, management and staff of the 3 companies.
“Today is the beginning of a new journey. These companies will merge to form ATU - a powerhouse that works for investment in the region and its people.
The minister said the establishment of the Atlantic Technological University, the fourth TU in the state, was an important opportunity for higher education in Ireland, especially in the western and northwestern regions.
The new TU will play an important role in the strategic regional development of the West and North West, providing higher education programs at all levels of the National Eligibility Framework, including apprenticeships and doctoral level qualifications.
