IRELAND: Wildfires in Crone Woods forest area; Air Corps was also on the scene to assist with the fire service

A wildfire has broken out in Ireland's Crone Woods forest. Footage circulating online shows huge plumes of smoke.

Chief Fire Officer Aidan Dempsey said authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and hope to have the fire under control by this afternoon.

"When the first fire service from Bray got there, they realized it was a big fire and a big incident, so they sent crews from Greystones and Blessington," he said.

We had the Air Corps helicopter with us in the morning and they were making huge interventions to put out the fire. It's very difficult terrain, so we've got to go where we can and the Air Corps helicopter is going to be difficult.

"They've now gone back to Baldonnell to refuel and now there's a second helicopter on site, it's a private helicopter from Galway, the Air Corps will be back so hopefully the fire will be fully under control by this afternoon.

Wicklow Fire Service said on Twitter that the Air Corps was also on the scene to assist with the fire. Wicklow Fire Service are currently battling a wildfire in Crone Woods near Enniskerry since this morning. Crews from Bray and Greystone have been working to bring the fire under control since 1am this morning.
