KERALA: A red alert was declared in 8 districts of Kerala on Thursday by the India Meteorological Department as rain continued to lash the state.
Districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kannur were put under red alert, indicating heavy to extremely heavy rains of over 20 cm in 24 hours.

Authorities have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in nine districts on Friday as rains continue to wreak havoc in Kerala.
A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions including professional colleges in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur, Wayanad, Kottayam, Idukki and Alappuzha districts on Friday. It has also been informed that there will be no change in pre-scheduled exams and interviews. Residential schools in Thrissur and Palakkad districts will function on Friday.
