Idukki: The spillway of Mullaperiyar dam in Idukki,Kerala is likely to open on Friday morning as the water level reached 136 feet on Thursday. Following this, the authorities issued the first warning on Thursday evening.

The Idukki District Information Office said that if the current inflow continues during the night, water may be released from the Mullaperiyar dam through the spillway at 10 am on Friday.

Idukki MLA Roshi Augustine has written to the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister seeking immediate intervention to reduce the water level. He said that the water level in Mullaperiyar is rising rapidly due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas and the water level has been lowered to the maximum.

The Mullaperiyar dam's growing water level has caused the Tamil Nadu government to warn that starting at 10 am, water may begin to spill out via the spillway.
