Near Kabul Mission,Two Russian Embassy employees were killed in the bombing

An explosion outside the Russian embassy in Kabul has killed at least two members of the staff, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. A Taliban spokesman confirmed the blast.

“An unknown gunman detonated an explosive device in the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the consular section of the Russian Embassy in Kabul,” the foreign ministry statement said Monday. “Two employees of the diplomatic mission were killed, and there were casualties among Afghan citizens as well.”

According to reports, the act was committed by a suicide bomber.

Afghan police said earlier that a suicide bomber had detonated explosives near the entrance to the Russian Embassy in Kabul, adding the attacker was shot dead by armed guards as he approached the gate.

According to deputy spokesman Bilal Karimi over the phone, the event is being looked into by the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan.

A suicide bomber approached the embassy at around 11:00 am, according to a text message from Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran. He stated that prior to the explosion, Afghan security personnel fired at him.

According to the Russian statement, the embassy is in close contact with the Afghan security forces, who are looking into the matter.
