TORONTO: The India Pavilion at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF2022) has its biggest ever presence targeting international filmmakers, with the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) upgrading its booth at the industry hub into a full-fledged pavilion.
The rationale given for the high presence at TIFF is to visualize India in collaboration with global filmmakers as representatives of production houses and national film commissions attend TIFF in large numbers.

“We consider Toronto one of the most prestigious film festivals,” said NFDC Managing Director Ravinder Bhakar. He said India currently has a co-production agreement with Canada but it "needs to be revitalized" to attract Canadian filmmakers to India. While cooperation with countries such as France or the United Kingdom has been effective, it has not yet been the case for Canada despite its significant Indo-Canadian diaspora.
Jeff McNaughton, TIFF's senior director, industry and theatre, said the largest pavilion this year was the India pavilion and the festival was excited to increase its "collaboration" with it.
