KERALA: Popular Front started hartal in the Kerala today, as incidents of violence were reported from across the Kerala state on Friday

Kerala: Popular Front started hartal in the state today, the arrest was made in protest against the raids and arrests conducted by the NIA across the country. The hartal is from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Meanwhile, as incidents of violence were reported from across the kerala state on Friday, the police stepped in and took hundreds of PFI workers into preventive custody. Widespread violence in the state during the Popular Front hartal. During the Popular Front hartal, police were also attacked in the state. Senior Civil Police Officer Antony and CPO Nikhil were injured when supporters of the hartal hit the police officers on their bike in Kollam Pallimuk. 

The attack happened when the hartal supporters were trying to stop the passengers from chanting obscenities. A hartal supporter hit their bike to police. The injured police officers are undergoing treatment at the hospital. KSRTC driver injured in eye in Kozhikode stone pelting. Hartal supporters pelted stones at KSRTC bus in front of Kozhikode Civil Station aswell. The driver was admitted to Beach Hospital with an eye injury. During the hartal, stones were pelted on vehicles at various places in the state. Stones were thrown at vehicles in Kozhikode town, Kallai and Cheruvannur. The windows of three KSRTC buses were broken in Kallera. The attack took place on a lorry in Kallai. KSRTC buses and lorries were pelted with stones on the Alappuzha ring road. An atmosphere of terror prevails in all the districts of the state.

At the same time, the police are taking strict action to avoid any untoward incidents related to the hartal. District police chiefs have been instructed to provide necessary security to government offices and institutions and public transport systems including KSRTC. The morning service was started from Tiruvambadi KSRTC sub-depot, but later the service was suspended.

Any violence during the hartal will result in immediate arrest. The police have instructed that shops should not be forced to close and the movement of people should not be restricted. Various universities have rescheduled the exams that were to be held today. Mahatma Gandhi University has postponed all examinations scheduled for tomorrow. The university authorities informed that the new date will be announced later.

Law and order department  ADGP Vijay Sakhere said that legal action will be taken against those who spread false information, rumors and rumors through WhatsApp and other social media regarding the hartal. It has been directed to start cyber patrolling on social media to find those who are spreading such propaganda.

Police arrested four Popular Front workers who tried to close the shop. Four persons, including Munir, Narshad CK and Shuhaib, who came from Payyannur Ramanthali side, were arrested. The Popular Front workers tried to close the shops that were open in Payyannur at around 12 noon on Friday. When the owners were asked to close the shop compulsorily, the locals gathered at the place and beat them up in an organized manner. The police intervened and arrested them and removed them from the place.

At Erattupetta in Kottayam district mid of kerala, which is a stronghold of the PFI, hartal supporters clashed with the police when the latter tried to disperse the crowd and around 100 persons were taken into custody, officers added. 

Then the police made it possible for the motorists to pass through the intersection. But in the meantime, the activists who stopped the biker who had reached there, beat him up. This is why the police waved the lathi.
The Popular Fronts are protesting against the lathi charge on the city roads. The protest has disrupted traffic in the city. More activists are coming to the city.


Strong Steps were by Kerala police, initiated in Kozhikode, Malappuram and other districts, where PFI men unleashed vandalism in public places.

The High Court filed a voluntary case against the Popular Front leaders who called for hartal in the state. The High Court directed strict action against those who violated the court order. Violators who threaten the lives of citizens should be met with an iron fist. The court directed the government to use all mechanisms to prevent violence.
