Dublin: The Budget 2023 tax band changes, workers can expect an extra €500 a year. Middle income workers could get an extra €500 a year in proposed tax band changes under Ireland's upcoming 2023 budget. Budget Day is less than a week away, and here are more details on what the people of Ireland can expect.
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar's idea to use a new 30% tax rate band to allow middle-income workers to keep more of their wages looks unlikely, but an individual earning an extra €50,000 could have an alternative.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has been given the go-ahead to increase the €36,800 income tax band threshold to €2,500, a plan reportedly endorsed by the Coalition. This means that workers will not have to pay the top tax rate of 40% on income below €39,300. The move will allow workers to avoid losing more of their earnings.
Inflation means we face sharp increases in the price of fuel, energy bills and the weekly food shop. Many of us tighten our belts as we head into winter. Budget 2023 will help ease some of the pressures that come with the cost of living crisis, including lump sum payments and packages. While the final details have yet to be released, there is currently much speculation that ministers Paschal Donohoe and Michael McGrath will spend €6.7 billion.
For example, the fuel allowance is expected to increase from €4 to €5, but it is not known if this will take effect before Christmas. Childcare fees are expected to be halved by 50% in the next two budgets, with a €200 cut due this year. The government will announce details of the 2023 budget next week (September 27), which the public hopes will introduce new measures to help people cope with the cost of living crisis.
