IRELAND: Diesel prices soar in Ireland; 2.02 euros per liter or more?

DUBLIN: Diesel prices soar in Ireland. Sales of diesel cars have been high since 2008 until recently, so these higher fuel prices will affect motorists nationally, at a time when energy prices are rising across Ireland.

The latest fuel price survey from Ireland shows that diesel is now at its second highest monthly average price. The average price of petrol at petrol stations across the country remains €1.84 per litre, while diesel is now €2.02 per litre, 4% more expensive than last month. Petrol is on average 11% higher than in October 2021, the AA's figures show.

The average motorist with a petrol car costs a total of €2,210, per year, to fill it up. Current fuel prices are 219 euros higher than the same time last year. The average motorist with a diesel car will cost €2,020 to fill it up, at current fuel prices, €126 more than in October 2021.

The difference in prices is believed to be due to surplus in petrol production and deficit in diesel production. While petrol prices have remained stagnant over the same period, the last month saw a significant increase in diesel prices.
