Waterford: A Malayali priest, from Kerala state was seriously injured in a stabbing incident in Waterford City, Ireland this morning and is being treated in hospital. The incident took place around 9.30am at the priest's home in the Ardkeen area of Waterford.
One of the residents of the house and Chaplain of Waterford General Hospital, a Malayali Fr. Bobbitt Thomas was assaulted. The priest was stabbed while trying to stop the attack. The assailant came when the 2 priests who were staying with him were not there.
A 30-year-old priest is being treated at University Hospital Waterford for "serious but non-life-threatening" stab wounds. The Garda Reported.
The Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Alphonsus Cullinan, said he was shocked by what had happened and hoped the priest would make a full recovery as soon as possible. He also said that he is praying for the priest and his colleagues.
A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident this morning and taken into custody at Waterford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Gardai said the investigation was ongoing.
