Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge will now lead the Congress. Mallikarjun Khargek wins Congress president election. Kharge won by securing 7897 votes. Mallikarjun Kharge won 89 percent of the votes.
Mapanna Mallikarjun Kharge is now the 98th and current President of the Indian National Congress and Member of Parliament and Rajya Sabha from Karnataka since 16 February 2021. He was the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 16 February 2021 to 01 October 2022.
Shashi Tharoor got 1072 votes. Tharoor, who performed well, won 12 percent of the votes. A total of 9385 votes were polled. 416 votes were invalid.
Earlier, the Election Commission had rejected Tharoor's complaint alleging irregularities in the voting. The complaint was related to UP. The new decisions of the Congress will belong to the new President. Rahul clarified that there will be no comments on it and the new decisions of the Congress will be made by the new president.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mallikarjun Kharge who was elected as Congress president. Narendra Modi said, "My best wishes to Mallikarjun Kharge as he assumes his new responsibility as Congress President." The Prime Minister also wished Kharge a fruitful tenure on Twitter.
