Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is all set to take strict measures to prevent annoying and unwanted phone calls and messages. The move comes amid widespread complaints about spam messages and calls from unregistered telemarketers.
With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning technology and spam detection system, steps will be taken to curb unwanted calls and messages from unregistered telemarketers.
TRAI, Reserve Bank of India, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs have decided to come up with a joint action plan to curb unwanted calls and messages as they lead to financial fraud.
As part of the 2018 regulation, the 'disturbed ledger technology' (DLT) system based on blockchain technology will be tightened. The requirement is that all commercial establishments and telemarketers must register with DLT and obtain the customer's permission to make phone calls and text messages. Texting and calling should be done only on a day and time convenient for the customer. Over 250,000 firms are registered on the DLT platform.
