December 1st really marks the start of winter in Ireland. Big snow falls almost every other year with little snow and great cold. However, this winter, the war-induced price rise is progressing.
Christmas lights are now dimmed or put on timers by most. The old excitement is gone in most places. Many people struggle to meet living expenses. Now winter heating itself will lead to cash costs and this time the cold has already started. Irish people believe that "a good summer means a good winter".
