Killarney: The next citizenship ceremonies in Ireland will take place on today Monday 5 December and Tuesday 6 December 2022 at the Killarney Convention Center in Killarney, Co Kerry.
Minister of State for Justice James Browne and Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabbitte are set to host the ceremonies, while retired High Court Judge Bryan McMahon and retired Judge Paddy McMahon will preside over the ceremonies.
People from over 130 countries will receive their naturalization certificates and swear allegiance to the Irish State in 4 separate ceremonies at the Gleneagles INEC Arena in Killarney. Most of the new citizens came from the UK (375), followed by India (326), Pakistan (282), Poland (170) and Syria (159), the top five national groups.
“We are not asking you to give up or replace your own sense of identity with your homeland when you become an Irish citizen. We want you to bring your culture, history and tradition with you. By sharing them with us, Ireland is the richer for it,” Minister Anne Rabbitte TD said, adding that Ireland is a place of “great diversity and openness”.
In July 2020, Ireland became the first European country to host an e-citizenship ceremony in response to Covid-19 restrictions. This was followed by 3 online citizenship ceremonies in 2021. In June, 950 people were granted Irish citizenship in the first individual citizenship ceremonies since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 158 citizenship ceremonies have taken place since its first introduction, with people from more than 180 countries receiving their naturalization certificates. Since 2011, approximately 155,000 people have been granted Irish citizenship since 2011.
