Scotland: A Native of Kerala state who has settled around 12 years in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, which is part of the UK, has been the victim of a brutal attack this week.
Binu Chavakamannil George was attacked, while who was waiting for the bus after night work in the Ferry Road area. Binu was first racially abused and bullied by a group of youths while standing at a bus stop. Binu tried to move away but they followed and attacked him. Binu was hit several times on the face and fell unconscious and one of the youths took Binu's bag and ran away.
Locals called the police. Then the friends of the company where Binu works came and with the help of the police he brought him home after primary treatment. Binu told the world with shock that such an experience came from the area where he has been working for the past twelve years.
The rise of such attacks in Scotland, which generally has a low rate of racist attacks, is a cause for concern among the Indian community. This is an indication that the recent influx of Asians and students is causing concern among the locals. In this case, special care should be taken to avoid traveling to isolated areas at night.
Newcomers should understand and avoid unsafe areas and report to the police if assaulted. The local Malayali organizations and other Malayali people are warning. Various organizations are now conducting activities involving the people's representatives in the area to take action against such incidents. The Malayali community in Edinburgh appreciated Binu for sharing his ordeal through a video and warning others.
