Due to the mob rush and collision during the New Year's Eve celebrations in Kochi, more than 200 persons are said to have sought medical attention. Police officers were among those who experienced discomfort as a result of the rush.
The party in the state's financial centre is thought to have been attended by more than five lakh people. The scenario resulted from a lack of planning and an inability to manage the throng. A major catastrophe was, however, narrowly avoided.
A woman was carried onto the roof of an autorickshaw and rushed to the hospital in Fort Kochi. The woman, who faced suffocation, was also given artificial ventilation on the roof top.
At the scene, there were only three ambulances and a doctor. Only one doctor was working at the Taluk hospital as well. More than 200 patients at the hospital had to be transferred to other facilities.
