Indian warship destroyed by Pakistan Indo-Pakistani War Of 1971
INS KHUKRI VESSEL
On reaching Diu, after seeing the Diu Fort, Museum and Churches, we went straight to the historic Battleship. INS Hukri is a warship that India lost in 1971 Indo-Pak war. This warship, which was destroyed by a missile attack from a Pakistani submarine, has now provided an opportunity for us to see and remember the memories, to remember the sailors we lost in that war and to pray for their memories for a moment. It was the first time to board and see a warship. When Ainas goes to Hukri, the date that comes to mind is December 9, 1971.
INS KHUKRI MEMORIAL
This is a memorial to the Indian Navy ship INS Kukri, which was sunk in 1971 by the Pakistani army. On December 9, 1971, INS Kukri sank 40 nautical miles off the coast of Diu. The lives of 18 Indian Navy officers and 176 sailors were lost in the depths of the Arabian Sea when the missile Kukri from the Pakistani submarine PNS Hangar sank.
Captain Mahendranath Mulla, the commanding officer of Kukri, was given the opportunity to surrender, but the captain and his fellow soldiers decided to fight and die. Captain Mulla also gave his life jacket to the junior officer before he died. The sacrifice of Mulla and his colleagues was rewarded by the Indian Navy by capturing Karachi port within 48 hours. In return for his irreplaceable bravery, Captain Mullack was honored with the Mahavira Chakra by the country. INS Kukri Memorial was inaugurated on 15th December 1999 by Indian Navy Flag Officer-in-Charge Vice Admiral Madhavendra Singh. A glass burial specimen of INS Kukri has also been installed at the memorial, located on a hill overlooking the sea.
