Is the time of covid a villain? Death has increased in the world!!!

  • Is this just a phenomenon?
  • So what exactly is going on?
  • Has covid forced us to delay other diseases?

More deaths now than during covid. The fallout from the lockdowns is starting to show. Because there is mounting evidence of a disturbing rise in mortality. Almost a year has passed since the lifting of covid restrictions, and reports from various countries indicate that more people are dying now than during the pandemic.

Analyzing Irish mortality is difficult because it can take up to three months for someone's death to be registered. However, in recent weeks, several sources have noted an increase in excess deaths (numbers above what would normally be expected), and it seems safe to assume that this is not just a coincidence.

The most striking findings come from Seamus Coffey, a lecturer in economics at University College Cork. Based on death notices from the website Rip.ie, he estimates that 9,718 people died in the eight weeks to January 25.

This is an increase of about 20 percent over the same period of the covid outbreak in 2021 and 2022. This is more than 40 percent higher than the year before the pandemic in 2019. This is linked to anecdotal reports of funerals being delayed, mortuaries under pressure and bodies being kept in hospitals until space becomes available.

Is this just a phenomenon?

No, it is noticed in many other countries. "Why are so many Americans dying now?" A recent report in the New York Times indicated an additional 300,000 deaths in the US since 2019.

The European Mortality Monitoring Project predicts mortality in 2022 to be well above normal, averaging less than 10 percent per month. There were 50,000 extra deaths in Britain last year - the highest figure since 1951. The Office for National Statistics recorded 7,000 in the three-week period to January 6.

So what exactly is going on?

No one knows for sure, but most suggestions have at least something to do with Covid. For a start, the virus hasn't really gone away - at least 118 people died from Covid-19 in Ireland last month.

Anti-vaccine campaigners claim that some Covid vaccines put you at higher risk of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart), blood clots or stroke. Most experts say these risks are statistically very small, and UK research has found that unvaccinated people are at risk of excess deaths.

A more plausible explanation is that the covid lockdowns that kept everyone at home for so long weakened our immune systems. Respiratory illnesses such as flu and RSV, which overran Irish hospitals over Christmas and early January, have also left us more vulnerable than usual.

"Pneumonia and influenza accounted for a significant proportion of the excess mortality in Ireland this winter, estimated at around 65 per cent," the HSE said last month, primarily affecting people aged 75 to 84.

Has covid forced us to delay other diseases?

Yes. In particular, the pandemic forced the postponement of thousands of cancer screenings or operations, inevitably storing up trouble for the future. Last November, the National Cancer Registry of Ireland found that 2,657 major cases went undiagnosed in 2020 alone - mostly liver, kidney and bowel types. The reality is that various screenings, including for children, are not yet routine

Above all, it is becoming clear that Covid has had a massive impact on the physical and mental health of the world as a whole. A look at the causes of excess deaths internationally shows increases in heart disease, high blood pressure, drug abuse and alcohol-related deaths.

Various theories have been put forward, but the only certainty is that it points to fatal structural weaknesses within our health system. The government needs to investigate this very clearly in a scientific manner.
