"The age limit for contesting elections should be 18" Parliament Standing Committee; The Election Commission does not agree

New Delhi: The Standing Committee of the Parliament has recommended that the age limit for contesting the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections should be lowered from 25 to 18.

This recommendation was made by the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs chaired by Sushil Kumar Modi. The committee felt that this would help more youths to enter the administration.

According to the report in Parliament, lowering the age limit has been successful in many countries. But the Election Commission said that it does not agree with the recommendation. The commission informed that constitutional amendment will be required to change the age limit.
