A random knife attack took place in Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport, leaving passengers and staff terrified by the violence.
A man in his 50s was stabbed multiple times while smoking a cigarette outside the departure hall of Dublin Airport at 11.30am on Sunday morning. According to sources, a penknife was used in the attack and he suffered seven stab wounds and is in critical condition at the hospital.
A Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) spokesperson said: 'Dublin Airport responded to an incident outside Terminal 1 this morning. One person has been arrested by gardaÃ. Flights at Dublin Airport are operating as normal. Airport police at the terminal responded to the incident within 90 seconds and took the man into custody, while airport fire service ambulance personnel assisted the stabbing victim, the spokesman said.
A garda spokesman said: 'Garda are investigating a public disturbance outside Terminal 1 of Dublin Airport at approximately 11.30am. A man in his 50s was taken from the scene to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening at this time.
A second man, aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at a Garda station in the North Dublin area under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Under the Air Navigation Transport Act, airport police are empowered to stop, search and detain any person or vehicle on airport property. The spokesman added
