Dublin: The Building Momentum deal calls for a 7.5% pay rise for all public sector workers in Ireland by October 1, 2023, based on the pay commission agreement. (Building Momentum agreement)

An initial 3% increase, backdated to February 2, 2022, was implemented in summer 2022. The 1% hike in the second phase came into effect in October 2022. The amount of 2% which was mentioned as the third phase increase has been increased in the pay slips of the employees from the month of March 2023. The remaining 1.5% increase was effective from October 1, 2022. According to section 3.1, the annual amount of the basic salary is increased by 1.5% or 750 euros in the public sector.

This was in addition to 1% (or €500 whichever is greater) which also came into effect from 1st October 2022 agreed under the original Building Momentum agreement. The next increase of 2% will be applied from 1st March 2023 with a further 1.5% (or €750 whichever is greater) from 1st October 2023.

The increase is the final step announced as part of the Building Momentum Pay Agreement to increase workers' salaries. In addition to the work salary, overtime and premium hours will also be increased by 1.5% for those working in the public sector. It will obviously benefit various public sector employees including nurses.
