Storm Ciaran to hit Ireland and UK: Met Office warning. Storm Kieran will bring strong winds and heavy rain to most of Ireland, including Louth, Monaghan and Kerry. Heavy rain from Storm Kieran means flooding is "likely" across the island of Ireland this week.
The heaviest rain and strongest winds will be in Munster (Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and Kerry.) and Leinster (Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow) and further flooding is likely. The Met Office office says.
Meanwhile, Met Eireann said Ireland could see heavy or prolonged rain, with rivers at high levels and flooding in some areas. Storm Ciaran is forecast to bring more heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday.
Storms Agnes and Babette, the current wind's predecessors, caused significant disruption and damage from flooding. Several severe weather warnings for rain are expected on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, ahead of a deep area of low pressure named Storm Kieran today. Strong winds and rain will intensify across much of the UK next week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Chris Almond, said: “Winds associated with Storm Kieran are likely to reach 80mph to 90mph along the south coast of England. Further inland areas will have wind speeds of 50 or 60mph. "This deep depression will bring heavy rain to most of the UK and parts of southern England and Wales, with 20 to 25mm becoming more widespread in southern and western areas, but higher areas with 40 to 60mm of rain. Likely. Areas already struggling to clean up from the heavy rain we've seen in the last week or so are likely to experience further impacts such as flooding. Warnings will continue to be updated over the coming days, so it's important to stay up to date with your local weather station's forecasts and warnings, Met forecasters said.
The Met Office has issued a status yellow rain warning for Antrim, Armagh, Downing, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry and some districts of Ireland from Monday to Wednesday.
