Launch of Safer Journeys Team implemented by Dublin Bus.

Dublin Bus is launching a Safer Journeys Team to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

Dublin Bus has announced the launch of its new Safer Journeys team, a 20-week pilot aimed at increasing safety and security across its network. The pilot, the first in the company's history, is one of the key recommendations put forward by independent security experts for the initiative. and is part of the company's ongoing commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for customers and employees.

The Safer Journeys team will initially consist of two dedicated mobile units, one based in the north and one in the south of Dublin. These teams operate Sunday to Thursday from 14:00 hrs to 02:00 hrs and Friday and Saturday from 16:00 hrs to 04:00 hrs, covering peak travel times and late night services. Their presence will provide visible and reassuring support to customers and employees

Since 2019, there have been numerous reports of violence against passengers and staff on buses in Dublin. Following this, this project is considering the long-standing demand to provide safety in buses. Meanwhile, bus workers' unions have responded that while they welcome the plan, they still hold to the demand for a special Garda team to provide security.

Dublin Bus will carefully monitor the impact of the Safe Travel Team throughout the 20-week pilot, gathering feedback from customers and staff. Metrics such as incident response time, customer satisfaction and overall incident numbers will be reviewed to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
