Wellington: Strong earthquake in New Zealand. An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was recorded near the capital city of Wellington at a depth of 33 km.

No casualty was reported in the incident. It is reported that 37,000 people in the region felt the tremors of the earthquake.

The earthquake occurred around 5 am local time on October 6. Many of the people who were sleeping were startled and panicked when they heard the vibration. Some faced the earthquake by stepping out of their homes. Many people called emergency numbers.
