Wellington: Strong earthquake in New Zealand. An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was recorded near the capital city of Wellington at a depth of 33 km.
The earthquake occurred around 5 am local time on October 6. Many of the people who were sleeping were startled and panicked when they heard the vibration. Some faced the earthquake by stepping out of their homes. Many people called emergency numbers.
