The Immigration Services Registration Office Burgh Quay Dublin is currently experiencing a very high volume of applications for permit renewals with a current processing time for renewing an IRP card of 3-4 weeks.

After completing the registration renewal, it may take another two weeks to receive the new IRP card by post. An active IRP card may be required to facilitate travel to and from Ireland.

To facilitate Non-EEA nationals who are legally resident in Ireland and intend to travel over the Christmas holidays, the Minister is urging customers to submit a renewal application by 31 October 2024 to renew your current permit if it expires between now and your intended departure date or during travel. 

Therefore, Non-EEA nationals in Ireland who need to apply to renew their IRP card before or during any intended international travel during the upcoming Christmas holiday period should apply online via the ISD online portal as soon as possible. 

Note: Not everyone can renew IRP card online at present. 

If you live in Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Cork or Limerick you can renew your registration permit online. Or contact the immigration or garda office in each county. See the link at the bottom of the page 

Immigration Services Registration Office Burgh Quay Dublin cannot guarantee that any renewal submitted after 31 October 2024 will be processed and an IRP card delivered in time to facilitate travel over the Christmas holidays. However, every effort will be made to do so.

Please note:  Regardless of the date a renewal application is submitted or processed, the validity period for renewal of a permit will be based on the current expiration date.

Therefore, Non EEA Nationals in the State, who are required to apply for a renewal of their IRP card, before or during any intended international travel over the coming Christmas holiday period, should apply online via the ISD online portal as soon as possible.

The Immigration Services Registration Office Burgh Quay Dublin cannot guarantee that any renewal submitted after the 31 October 2024 will be processed and an IRP card delivered in time to facilitate travel over the Christmas holiday period. Although, every attempt will be made to do so.

Please note: Regardless of the date a renewal application is submitted or processed, the validity period for renewal of the permission will be based on the current expiry date.

You can apply to renew your registration up to 12 weeks before its expiry date, including a change in category of your permission stamp.

1. Set up an online account or log into an existing account

  • Set up your online account or login here.
  • Check which documents are required to renew your permit.
  • If you need to pay a fee, have your credit or debit card details ready.

2. Prepare your documents

  • Check which documents are required to renew your permit. 
  • Keep digital copies of your documents ready. This can be a digital scan or a photograph of the document. However, the immigration officer should be able to read it clearly.
  • If you need to pay the fee, have your credit or debit card details ready. Some permits cost €300 to renew, while others do not require a fee.

You will need:

  • A copy of your most recent Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card.
  • A copy of the biometric page of your current passport.
  • If you and a family member want to renew, you must apply separately. This means you cannot apply together.
  • You must be in Ireland to apply.

3. Update your registration

Please complete the following steps to renew your registration online:

  • Select Registration Renewal Form.
  • Start your application.
  • Upload your documents.
  • Pay the fee (if applicable).
  • Submit your application.

4. Applying for renewal of your registration  After submitting your application:

  • You will be emailed a unique application number (OREG number) and a payment receipt. Keep these in case you need to contact them later.
  • If your application is successful, an email will be sent to notify you.
  • A new IRP card will be sent to you within 10-15 working days
  •  If more information is required, you will be notified.
  • If your application is unsuccessful, we will email you to let you know why. If you have paid the fee it will be refunded.
