Bomb Threat at Delhi School Declared Hoax; Investigation Underway into Rohini Blast

Delhi’s Venkateshwar Global School, located in Rohini, received a bomb threat via email on Friday morning, triggering a swift response from emergency services and law enforcement. The threat, however, was later declared a hoax after thorough inspections revealed no suspicious objects on the premises.

The incident comes just a day after a low-intensity explosion occurred near a cinema hall in Prashant Vihar, less than a kilometre from the school. This proximity has heightened concerns among residents and authorities in the area.

Immediate Response and Evacuation

According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call about the bomb threat was received from the Delhi Police at 10:57 am. Emergency teams, including DFS personnel, the bomb disposal squad, and a dog squad, conducted a meticulous search of the school premises.

School authorities promptly acted by informing parents and arranging for an early dispersal of students. A message sent by the school assured parents, stating:
"The situation is well under control. There's no need to panic."

Dr. Namita Singhal, the school’s principal, confirmed the receipt of the threatening email and emphasized that the safety of students and staff remained their top priority.

Ongoing Investigations

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have launched a probe into both the hoax bomb threat and the low-intensity explosion near the cinema hall in Prashant Vihar. The blast on Thursday caused panic but resulted in no injuries.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under multiple sections, including:

  • Section 326 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,
  • Section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and
  • Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act.

Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for planting or dumping the explosive material.

Public Concern

The recent events have left residents of Rohini on edge, particularly as they follow an earlier explosion at a CRPF school in the same area around 40 days ago, which injured one person. Authorities are now working to determine if the incidents are connected and to ensure the safety of the community.

While the bomb threat at Venkateshwar Global School turned out to be a false alarm, the series of events underscores the need for heightened vigilance and quick action in the face of potential security threats.
