In his speech to the graduating students, Saxena also emphasized the importance of responsibility in life, saying, "As you move ahead, you have four guiding stars. First is your responsibility towards yourself, the second is towards your parents and family, the third is towards society and nation-building, and the fourth is to prove yourself as women who have broken the glass ceiling and stand on par with others in all fields."
Atishi, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), became Delhi's Chief Minister in September after Kejriwal resigned, citing the corruption charges against him and his decision to seek a "certificate of honesty" from the public.
Ongoing Tensions Between AAP and Delhi LG
The relationship between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor has been tense for some time, with several disputes arising over governance issues and control of the city's bureaucracy. Last month, multiple AAP leaders were detained during a protest outside the LG's residence, calling for the reinstatement of bus marshals. The marshals' services were terminated by Saxena in October 2023.
Additionally, in August, the Delhi government accused the Lieutenant Governor of delaying the hiring process for staff in Delhi's hospitals and dispensaries, further fueling tensions between the two sides. Despite these ongoing differences, Saxena's praise for Atishi marks a significant moment in the political landscape of the city.
