South Korea's national security adviser, Shin Won-sik, revealed that Russia has supplied North Korea with anti-air missiles, air defense equipment, and military technology in exchange for Pyongyang dispatching troops to support Moscow's war in Ukraine.
In an interview aired on Friday with South Korean broadcaster SBS, Shin confirmed that Russia had provided economic and military aid to North Korea. “It is understood that North Korea has been provided with related equipment and anti-aircraft missiles to strengthen Pyongyang's weak air defense system,” he stated.
Shin also suggested that Russia has offered military technology to bolster North Korea’s satellite program, following Pyongyang's failed attempt to launch a spy satellite earlier this year.
This week, South Korean lawmakers disclosed that approximately 10,900 North Korean troops had been deployed to Kursk as part of Russia’s airborne and marine units engaged in combat against Ukrainian forces. According to information from South Korea’s spy agency, some of these troops have already participated in battles.
The development marks a concerning escalation of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, raising questions about regional security and the broader implications for global conflicts.
