A yellow weather alert has been issued across the country in Ireland for snow and freezing temperatures. Warning for 5 counties from today. Snow warnings are also in place from tonight for 5 counties - Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim and Sligo.


A status yellow low temperature ice warning has been issued across the country with effect from 8.00pm tomorrow. Temperatures will drop below freezing this week with a chance of snow in some areas Temperatures this week may be slightly below average for November. 

Met Éireann has warned of widespread snow and very cold temperatures. The warning will remain in place until 10.00 a.m. Wednesday. A yellow snow and ice warning has been issued by the Met Office for counties, Cavan, Donegal and Leitrim due to the extreme cold. The warning is in effect from 7.00 pm today (Monday) to 8.00 am tomorrow. Officials said that there will be snowfall in these places by night and the visibility on the road will be reduced.

Weather forecasters had earlier warned that the country will experience colder weather than usual this week, and there is a possibility of ice formation along with snowfall. Temperatures were forecast to drop below zero. This morning Munster (Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford), Connacht (Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo), Leinster (Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly , Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow) in the afternoon in Ulster (Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal) counties in the Republic of Ireland and 6 counties Antrim, Down, Armagh, Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone in Northern Ireland). The Meteorological Department said that it will spread to the region. Ice will form in Ulster and north Connacht in the evening.  The weather this week will see temperatures drop by 3 to 6 degrees in the northern half of the country, while elsewhere 7 to 12 degrees will be seen. Drivers should slow down as ice may form on the road. Expect hazardous conditions on roads and trails with some travel disruptions. Chance of fog, snow and ice. Forecasters warn of poor visibility and difficult travel conditions.
