New Delhi: A senior advisor to Bangladesh’s interim government has stirred a major controversy by posting an altered map of Bangladesh on social media, incorporating parts of India.
The contentious map, which included Indian states such as West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, was shared by Mahfuz Alam, a key aide to interim leader Mohammad Yunus. The image was posted on his personal social media account, drawing immediate criticism and backlash.
As the post triggered widespread protests, Mahfuz Alam swiftly deleted it. Notably, the post also suggested that India should acknowledge the protests that led to the resignation of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, further fueling tensions.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the act and lodged a formal protest with the Bangladeshi authorities. “We understand that the contentious post has been removed. We wish to remind all parties to exercise caution in their public statements and actions,” Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a press briefing in New Delhi.
The incident has raised concerns over the diplomatic relationship between the two nations, with experts emphasizing the importance of avoiding provocative actions to maintain dialogue and cooperation.
