New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, 92, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday evening after his health reportedly deteriorated. Sources indicate that he was brought to the hospital’s emergency department at around 8 PM.
The specific cause of his hospitalization has not been disclosed. Family members and senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have reportedly arrived at the hospital to monitor his condition.
Dr. Singh is widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic liberalization during his tenure as Finance Minister under the PV Narasimha Rao government from 1991 to 1996. His transformative reforms paved the way for India's economic growth.
Serving as the Prime Minister for two consecutive terms between 2004 and 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Dr. Singh played a pivotal role in shaping India's economic and political trajectory. Until recently, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha, retiring from his parliamentary role in April this year.
Further updates on his health condition are awaited.
