Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his historic two-day visit to Kuwait, met Abdullah Al Baroun and Abdul Lateef Al Nesef, the individuals responsible for the Arabic translations of India’s iconic epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
The meeting underscored the global appreciation of Indian culture, with Prime Minister Modi commending their efforts. Sharing images of the meeting on social media, Modi wrote, “Happy to see Arabic translations of the Ramayana and Mahabharata. I compliment Abdullah Al-Baroun and Abdul Lateef Al-Nesef for their efforts in translating and publishing these works. Their initiative highlights the popularity of Indian culture globally.”
Abdul Lateef Al Nesef, who published the translations, expressed his delight in meeting Modi. “I am very happy; it is an honour for me. Mr. Modi is very pleased with the translations. He signed both books,” Al Nesef told ANI.
He further shared that the translation of the epics, spearheaded by Abdullah Al Baroun, took two years and eight months to complete. Together, Baroun and Al Nesef have translated and published over 30 books and epics into Arabic, bringing Indian literary heritage to Arabic-speaking audiences.
PM Modi’s visit to Kuwait marks a historic moment, as it is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years. Invited by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Modi’s trip aims to strengthen bilateral ties and foster cooperation in various domains, including trade, energy, and regional stability.
In his departure statement, Modi emphasized the enduring relationship between India and Kuwait:
“We deeply value the historical connection with Kuwait, nurtured over generations. Beyond being strong trade and energy partners, we share interests in peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the West Asia region.”
During the visit, the Prime Minister will engage with Kuwaiti leadership, including the Emir, the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister, as well as the vibrant Indian diaspora in Kuwait.
This visit reflects India’s commitment to enhancing its ties with Kuwait and promoting cultural exchanges that celebrate shared heritage and mutual respect.
