Authorities are investigating the death of an eight-year-old girl following a fatal assault at a residence in New Ross, Co. Wexford, on Sunday night. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 11:45 pm. The child was transported to University Hospital Waterford for urgent treatment but tragically succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Monday morning.
A man and a woman, both in their thirties, were also injured during the incident. Their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening, and they are currently receiving treatment at Wexford General Hospital.
Investigation Underway
The scene has been cordoned off and preserved for forensic examination as Gardaà investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. The Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been engaged, and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled as part of the inquiry.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at New Ross Garda Station.
