Over 100 Flights Delayed
The dense fog led to delays in over 100 flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. While no flights were cancelled or diverted, an advisory was issued by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). The advisory, posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stated:
“While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”
The CAT III system enables flight operations during low visibility conditions. Airlines, including IndiGo, also issued cautionary statements, urging passengers to stay updated on flight statuses through official apps or websites.
Rail Travel Also Affected
Several trains were delayed across the region as foggy conditions persisted, impacting passengers' schedules.
Weather Outlook
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted light rain or drizzle in Delhi on Wednesday. The IMD also noted predominant southeast winds during the morning hours, with speeds increasing slightly during the afternoon before dropping to less than 4 kmph by evening.
Shallow fog and smog are expected to persist in the evening and night hours. Neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, are also forecast to face dense to very dense fog conditions over the next two to three days.
Visuals of Intensity
Images from across the capital, including landmarks like Dhaula Kuan, India Gate, Nirankari Colony, and Shankar Vihar, captured the dense fog blanketing roads, severely limiting visibility.
With foggy conditions likely to continue for several days, residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling, particularly during early morning and late evening hour
