External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar concluded a four-day visit to the United States, coinciding with Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President. During his visit, Jaishankar engaged in high-level discussions with newly appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, addressing key regional and global issues.
Brief Discussion on Bangladesh
Responding
to inquiries about his discussions with Rubio and Waltz, Jaishankar confirmed
that Bangladesh was a topic of conversation. "Yes, we had a brief
discussion on Bangladesh. However, it would not be appropriate for me to delve
into further details," he stated. Attended a productive Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting today in Washington DC. Thank @secrubio for hosting us and FMs @SenatorWong & Takeshi Iwaya for their participation.

Jaishankar
clarified that the discussions did not include recent attacks on Indian
consulates in the U.S. or threats against Indian diplomats in Washington. “I
didn’t raise those issues on this occasion," he said, while reiterating
India’s firm stance on diplomatic security.
“The
attack on our consulate in San Francisco is a very serious matter. We expect accountability
and action against those responsible," he emphasized.
Other Bilateral Concerns
When
questioned about two ongoing cases in U.S. courts involving a former Indian
official and an Indian business tycoon, Jaishankar stated, “No, the subject
didn’t come up during the meetings."
Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting: Advancing a Free
Indo-Pacific
A
significant highlight of Jaishankar’s visit was the Quad Foreign Ministers’
meeting in Washington. Alongside his counterparts Marco Rubio (U.S.), Penny
Wong (Australia), and Takeshi Iwaya (Japan), Jaishankar discussed strategies to
promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Following
the meeting, Jaishankar took to X (formerly Twitter), describing the engagement
as “productive” and emphasizing the Quad’s role as a “force of global good.”
The
discussions focused on intensifying collaboration among member nations to
address shared challenges and uphold regional security and economic stability.
A Strategic Visit at a Pivotal Time
EAM
Jaishankar noted the significance of the Quad meeting taking place just a day
after President Trump’s inauguration. His visit underlined India’s commitment
to strengthening bilateral ties with the U.S. and advancing multilateral
cooperation through the Quad framework.
As India
navigates an evolving geopolitical landscape, Jaishankar’s engagements reflect
a concerted effort to reinforce partnerships and address pressing global
issues.
