Eight soldiers from the Rotem Battalion of the Givati Brigade were injured over the weekend during an operation in Jabalia, located in northern Gaza. According to Kan News, three soldiers sustained severe injuries but have since stabilized. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have informed the soldiers’ families, though the incident has not been widely publicized. Initial reports suggest the injuries occurred when an explosive device detonated inside a building the soldiers were entering.
The operation in Jabalia is part of the IDF’s ongoing campaign in northern Gaza, which began three months ago. Following operations in Jabalia and Beit Lahia, the campaign has now shifted to Beit Hanoun, near Kibbutz Erez, Nir-Am, and Sderot.
Strategic Advances Amid Rising Risks
The IDF emphasized that current operations are being conducted more cautiously and methodically compared to earlier efforts. The strategy includes safeguarding critical infrastructure, such as restoring railway operations in Sderot, which remains exposed to terrorist anti-tank fire.
In a separate incident near Beit Hanoun on Saturday morning, the IDF reported the deaths of four soldiers after their vehicle struck an explosive device at around 10:00 a.m. Six additional soldiers were injured, with one in serious condition.
Investigation Underway
The IDF is investigating whether the Beit Hanoun explosion was accompanied by gunfire from nearby terrorists. These recent incidents highlight the escalating dangers faced by Israeli forces operating in Gaza.
The ongoing campaign continues to underscore the complex and volatile nature of the situation, as the IDF balances operational goals with the imperative to mitigate risks to personnel and infrastructure.
