DUBLIN — More than 300,000 public sector workers in Ireland are due to take part in a 24-hour strike on Wednesday, October 14, amid a dispute over a new pay agreement. The action is expected to affect schools, hospitals, government offices and other public services.
Emergency and critical healthcare services will remain available, but routine hospital appointments, planned operations and other non-urgent services are set to be cancelled or postponed. The Health Service Executive has said affected patients are being contacted and appointments will be rearranged.
The Government has allocated €1.2 billion in Budget 2027 for a new public service pay agreement. However, unions say pay must be addressed at the start of negotiations, while the Government has urged them to enter talks and call off the strike.
A further day of industrial action is planned for October 21. People in Ireland are advised to check official updates from their schools, hospitals and public service providers before travelling or attending appointments. Anyone needing emergency medical care should not delay seeking help.
