High-Stakes Delhi Elections: Kejriwal to Hold Press Conference, Amit Shah Accuses AAP of Deception

New Delhi, January 26, 2025 – As the battle for Delhi intensifies ahead of the assembly elections on February 5, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a press conference on Sunday, calling it a "very, very, very important" issue. The announcement has sparked speculation amidst a high-voltage campaign season where political parties are vying for control of the national capital.

The vote count for the Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 8. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are gearing up to challenge AAP’s bid for a third consecutive term.

Shah Targets AAP Over Governance and Integrity
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, campaigning in Delhi, launched a sharp attack on the AAP, accusing the party of engaging in "politics of deceit and lies." Addressing public meetings in Rajouri Garden, Shah called for voters to support the BJP's "double-engine government" for progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Shah alleged that AAP has been misleading the public by claiming that BJP will discontinue existing welfare schemes if voted to power. He clarified, "PM Modi has assured that no welfare scheme for the poor in Delhi will be discontinued. Arvind Kejriwal is spreading lies and misleading the people."

The Union Minister further criticized the AAP for alleged failures during its tenure, citing what he called major corruption scandals such as the DTC bus scam, smart classroom scam, and CCTV scam. He accused the government of misusing public funds earmarked for essential projects like new hospitals, schools, and cleaning the Yamuna River.

Personal Jibes and Policy Criticism
Taking a direct swipe at Kejriwal, Shah accused him of hypocrisy, stating, "Arvind Kejriwal, who came into politics claiming he would reject government bungalows, built a ‘sheesh mahal’ worth ₹52 crore for himself." Shah also accused the AAP government of corruption in the alleged liquor scam and criticized its policies on liquor shops in residential areas, claiming they were opened near schools and religious sites despite promises to the contrary.

Context of the Elections
The upcoming election holds significant political stakes, with the BJP aiming to end AAP's decade-long rule in Delhi by focusing on issues of governance, development, and alleged corruption. The Congress, while less prominent in this race, seeks to reclaim its former stronghold.

With Kejriwal’s announcement of an urgent press conference and escalating accusations from opponents, the political climate in Delhi is heating up. As the election approaches, all eyes remain on the key players and their strategies to sway the electorate in the final stretch of campaigning.
