India Celebrates 75 Glorious Years as a Republic

  New Delhi, January 26, 2025 – The nation marked its 75th Republic Day with grandeur and patriotic fervor, as citizens across the country celebrated the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with leaders from across the political spectrum, extended heartfelt greetings, emphasizing the significance of the Constitution and the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity it embodies.

Prime Minister Modi greeted the nation on X, stating, “Happy Republic Day. Today, we celebrate 75 glorious years of being a Republic. We bow to all the great women and men who made our Constitution and ensured that our journey is rooted in democracy, dignity, and unity. May this occasion strengthen our efforts towards preserving the ideals of our Constitution and working towards a stronger and prosperous India.”

Leader of Opposition’s Message

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the Constitution’s role in safeguarding every Indian, irrespective of religion, caste, or region. He called for collective responsibility to uphold and protect its principles, stating, “Our Constitution is the pride of the Indian Republic, the protective shield of every Indian. It is the duty of all of us to respect and protect it.”

A Day of National Pride
President Droupadi Murmu led the nation’s celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, joined by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the Chief Guest. The choice of Indonesia as a guest holds historical significance, as the nation’s first Republic Day in 1950 was also graced by an Indonesian leader.

This year’s theme, “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Legacy and Progress), highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage and aspirations for a brighter future. The grand parade featured a display of military prowess, cultural tableaux, and the spirit of women empowerment, with veteran female officers from the armed forces taking the spotlight.

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, and Dr. Ambedkar, stating, “The Constitution is our guide to justice, equality, and unity.”

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister spoke of “Vikasit Bharat 2047” and “Swarnandhra Vision 2047” as goals aligned with the spirit of the Constitution.

  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the significance of Indonesia’s presence, calling it a symbol of the enduring cultural and political ties between the two nations.

Celebrations Across the Nation
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat unfurled the national flag, while Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy participated in a wreath-laying ceremony in Hyderabad. International singer Mary Millben also extended her wishes, adding a global touch to the celebrations.

Global Greetings
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the growing partnership between the United States and India, calling it a defining relationship of the 21st century.
