The Indian men’s and women’s kho kho teams etched their names in history by claiming the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup 2025 titles at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, on Sunday. Both teams triumphed over Nepal in their respective finals, showcasing a commanding performance throughout the tournament.
The Indian men’s team outclassed Nepal 54-36 in a closely contested final, while the women’s team dominated with an emphatic 78-40 victory.
Men’s Final: India Outplays Nepal
The men’s final began with Nepal winning the toss and opting to defend. India, capitalizing on the opportunity to attack first, secured a substantial 26-0 lead by the end of Turn 1. Nepal mounted a spirited response in Turn 2, narrowing the gap to 26-18, but India regained control in Turn 3, extending their lead to an unassailable 54-18.
Despite a determined effort from Nepal in the final turn, the deficit proved too large to overcome. India emerged victorious, clinching the championship with a stellar all-round performance.
The Indian men’s team remained undefeated throughout the tournament. After topping Group A with four wins, including a nail-biting 42-37 victory over Nepal in the group stages, India defeated Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals and South Africa in the semi-finals to secure their place in the final.
Women’s Final: India’s Dominance Unmatched
In the women’s final, Nepal’s decision to field first backfired as the Indian team asserted its dominance early. With a blistering attack led by captain Priyanka Ingle, India took a commanding 34-0 lead at the end of Turn 1.
Nepal attempted to regroup in Turn 2, managing to reduce the deficit to 35-24, but India’s robust defense stymied any further progress. Turn 3 saw India’s attackers eliminate six batches of Nepalese defenders, extending their lead to an imposing 73-24. The Indian defenders then sealed the match with a disciplined performance in the final turn, clinching a resounding 78-40 victory.
Like their male counterparts, the Indian women’s team remained unbeaten throughout the competition. Dominating Group A with three wins, they advanced to the final with decisive victories over Bangladesh in the quarter-finals and South Africa in the semi-finals.
