Gwadar: Armed militants launched an attack on a police post in the Turbat area of Kech district on Saturday, according to local officials.
The attackers, traveling on motorcycles, targeted a police check post on the outskirts of Turbat city. The assailants reportedly took the on-duty police personnel hostage at gunpoint, seizing official weapons, communication radios, and other equipment. Following the ransacking, the militants set the check post on fire, completely destroying it.
Police officials confirmed that the post was “completely gutted” in the incident. Security personnel, including police and Frontier Corps teams, arrived at the scene soon after receiving reports of the attack, but the militants had already fled. No casualties were reported.
A search operation has been launched in the area to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Earlier Incident: Blast Targets Bus in Turbat
This incident follows a deadly attack in early January, when a blast targeted a bus in Turbat’s suburban New Bahman area. The attack left four people dead and 32 injured, as confirmed by police.
Rabia Tariq, public relations officer for the Balochistan Inspector General of Police’s office, stated that the nature of the blast was under investigation. Among the injured were Quetta Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Zohaib Mohsin and four members of his family, who were caught in the blast while traveling to Turbat.
Five of the injured were reported to be in critical condition and were transported to nearby medical facilities, with severely injured patients being transferred to hospitals in other cities for advanced treatment.
A statement from Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that necessary formalities were being completed for the deceased, and the injured were receiving medical care.
The banned militant group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the bus attack.
Security Concerns in Balochistan
The recent attacks underscore the persistent security challenges in Balochistan, where militant groups continue to target law enforcement personnel and public infrastructure. Security forces are intensifying efforts to address the threat and ensure the safety of civilians in the region.
