Raipur, Chhattisgarh: In a significant move to enhance security and curb crime, the Raipur Police has launched an extensive verification drive targeting individuals residing in the city without proper documentation. The initiative follows reports from various police stations indicating that a large number of people from other states had been living and working in Raipur without registering their identities with law enforcement authorities.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) City, Lakhan Patle, stated that several landlords had failed to inform the police about their tenants’ identities, creating challenges in tracking non-local residents.
"A detailed recce and survey were conducted by our personnel. Based on this, all suspects were brought in for verification. Their Aadhaar cards are being checked, and a form is being filled out to determine their origin and purpose of stay," Patle explained.
The police official further highlighted that many of these individuals hail from West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and some have been found involved in criminal activities. He assured that due action would be taken against those found suspicious and emphasized that the verification drive would significantly contribute to reducing crime in the city.
Additionally, police officials are scrutinizing Aadhaar cards for authenticity. If any fake documents are detected, a thorough investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be taken.
Regarding the presence of foreign nationals, Patle stated, "At this stage, it is unclear whether there are individuals from foreign countries. Verification of identity documents is ongoing."
So far, approximately 2060 individuals have been identified without proper documentation. The police have assured that further action will be taken based on verification results to ensure the safety and security of the city.
