New Delhi: Security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, eliminating two heavily armed terrorists, officials confirmed on Friday.
The encounter took place in the Khari Karmara area late Thursday night after alert troops detected suspicious movement along the LoC. Engaging swiftly, security personnel initiated a heavy exchange of fire, neutralizing the infiltrators.
“The terrorist movement was detected last night in the Poonch sector. Alert troops swiftly engaged the infiltrating terrorists, triggering an intense and heavy firefight,” the Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps stated in a post on X.
Following the operation, security forces launched an extensive search in the dense foliage surrounding the infiltration site to rule out the presence of additional threats. Reinforcements were immediately deployed to bolster the search efforts.
Meanwhile, earlier on Thursday, a separate cordon and search operation was initiated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after reports of suspected terrorist movement. A joint team comprising police and CRPF personnel launched the operation in Dorhu, Basti, and nearby forested regions of Bhaderwah at 8:30 am.
Officials stated that the operation was prompted by local residents who reported noticing suspicious activities in the area. Security forces remain on high alert as combing operations continue to ensure the region’s safety.
