Currently, Shikaripura MLA B.Y. Vijayendra holds the position of state president. Vijayendra, the son of BJP stalwart and former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, has expressed confidence in continuing in the role. Addressing reporters in Mysuru on January 17, Vijayendra stated, “When I say I will strengthen the party and bring it to power in the state with a clear majority, it means I will continue as the party’s state president.”
However, dissent within the party persists, with some leaders, including Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and Gokak MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi, opposing Vijayendra's continuation. Despite the opposition, Vijayendra expressed his confidence in the party high command's trust in his leadership, asserting that he would take everyone into confidence and address the challenges ahead.
As the BJP’s Karnataka president over the past year, Vijayendra highlighted his efforts against the Congress-led state government, including organizing a padayatra from Bengaluru to Mysuru to protest Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's administration. He criticized the Congress government for its alleged failures in law and order, citing recent crimes in Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Bengaluru as examples of mismanagement.
Vijayendra also accused the state government of corruption, alleging that it operates as a “60% commission government,” a significant increase from the “40% commission” label it had previously attributed to the BJP administration.
The party's central leadership is expected to make a decision soon to resolve the internal dissent and conclude the election process for the state president.
